Yes to AV
The various pros and cons of the AV and FPTP voting systems have been chewed over constantly in the media. At least when the media wasn’t speculating about the royal wedding. But frankly, I think the most important point is this.
Our current system is flawed. Of that there is no doubt. The AV system may not be perfect if we put it into practice. But know this: if we vote “no” that’s all the excuse the government needs to bolt that door and never let us have a say again. Hell, this is the first referendum they’ve given us since 1975.
At least if we vote yes the AV it opens the possibility to yet more changes in the future. If we say no we will never again get that chance. The current system works in favour of the deeply faulty establishment and against the interests of the voter. Let’s not let them keep it without a fight.
